2006 Shuster Awards

Click on the picture above to see it in full.

That piece above is the poster for the 2006 Shuster Awards. The poster was done by Darwyn Cooke.

For those that didn't already know, I am a member of the 2006 Shuster Awards Nominating Committee. It's something that I'm very proud to be involved with, though I never mentioned it on my blog until today. Just wanted to keep it "hush-hush" during the nomination process, but now that's over.

The nominees will be revealed on Monday February 20th, 2006. I'll openly state, there wasn't enough nomination spaces for the amount of great Canadian talent out there. Many favourites had to be left off, but everyone on the list deserves to be on there. Just keep an eye out for it on Monday.

The Shuster Awards will take place at the Paradise Comics Toronto Comicon, on Saturday April 29th, 2006, at 7:30PM.

Superman/Batman #26 Preview

This has been a story that I've been promoting ever since I heard about it in an issue of Wizard Magazine (I forget which issue). This is the issue that was supposed to be written by Sam Loeb, before he passed away after a 3-year battle with cancer. It was then completed by the following. Writers: Jeph Loeb (Sam's father; Superman/Batman, Supergirl), Allan Heinberg (Young Avengers), Joss Whedon (Astonishing X-Men), Joe Kelly (Action Comics, Superman), Brad Meltzer (Identity Crisis), Mark Verheiden (Superman), Brian K. Vaughan (Ex Machina), Geoff Johns (Infinite Crisis), Joe Casey (Iron Man: The Inevitable) and Paul Levitz (JSA). Artists: John Cassaday (Astonishing X-Men), Joe Madureira (The Ultimates 3), Jeff Matsuda (The Batman: Animated Series), Ian Churchill (Supergirl), Ed McGuinness (Superman/Batman), Rob Liefeld (Teen Titans), Jim Lee (All Star Batman and Robin, The Boy Wonder), Tim Sale (Superman: For All Seasons), Arthur Adams, Joyce Chin, Mike Kunkel, Duncan Rouleau, Carlos Pacheco (Green Lantern), Michael Turner (Soulfire) and Pat Lee (Cyberforce, Marvel Knights Spider-Man).

The issue is slated to come out on April 19, 2006. You can read about that on the DC Comics Website.

Also, please check out the Interview with Jeph Loeb, done by the great people over at Newsarama.

Now, here is a preview to the issue. Written by Jeph Loeb, art by Tim Sale, lettering by Richard Starkings. Artwork is (c) DC Comics.

... I so copied the last part from Newsarama. Sorry guys, I'm just not used to writing all that copyright stuff at the end. That said, please check out Newsarama on a daily basis for all the latest comic news.

Remember, the issue is slated to comes on April 19th, 2006.

Feb. 5th, 2006 - Hobbystar Toronto ComiCON

Green Arrow by Ethan Van Sciver
Green Arrow by Ethan Van Sciver

Sunday morning/afternoon, I attended the Hobbystar Toronto ComiCON to meet Ethan Van Sciver (Green Lantern: Rebirth; Superman/Batman). Got some of my books signed, and a nice sketch (above).

Also, I found out the guest list for the one-day, "Fan Appreciation" Toronto ComiCON on April 23rd, 2006 (the week before Paradise Comics Toronto Comicon).

Here they are:

Olivier Coipel (House of M, New Avengers Annual), Rags Morales (Wonder Woman, JSA, Identity Crisis), Ron Garney (Amazing Spider-Man), Billy Tan (Uncanny X-Men, X-23), The Luna Brothers (Spider-Woman: Origin, Girls), UDON Comics (Street Fighter II, Exalted) and Bright Anvil Studios. Those are the ones listed on the ad so far.

Aside from meeting Ethan Van Sciver (which was the main reason I was there), the rest of the convention wasn't as good as the one in November. The retailers didn't really have any good deals, or good books that I wanted. Now I'm looking forward to the end of April, with two conventions, and the beginning of May, with Free Comic Book Day.

Oh, and the Steelers won Super Bowl XL!!!

PAMELA ANDERSON.... (and me)

Pamela Anderson & Me

So I met Pamela Anderson today. Wasn't really planning on it, until my bro told me about it last night. Even then, I was debating whether or not I wanted to get up and go. Ultimately, I did, and I'm happy I did.

She was signing down at the Indigo bookstore at the Eaton Centre. She was only signing "The Joy of Text" book, published by Virgin Mobile, to promote text messaging (I'm guessing, with Virgin Mobile phones).

I have no intentions on reading it.
