Boughts and Thoughts - February 28th, 2007

Got to the store, and was ready to pick up more than I originally stated. Ended up passing on most of the extras, except for one. I'll mention it when I get to it.

The Flash: The Fastest Man Alive #9 - It took one issue, and I'm liking Marc Guggenheim's run on this book, more than I did Danny Bilson and Paul DeMeo's run. Flash is back on my list.

Green Lantern #17 - Cover got me curious, interior was pretty good. Probably getting the next issue, and I'm definitely looking forward to the Sinestro Corps.

Runaways #24 - An end of an era. I'm going to miss Vaughan and Alphona on this book. Damn you, Iron Man! Now what's Whedon gonna do?

The Walking Dead #35 - Well, they cleaned the prison out pretty quickly. Not a big cliffhanger ending like the last issue.

Boughts and Thoughts - February 21st, 2007

52 Week 42 - Pretty good issue. Mainly focused on Ralph Dibny. Nice artwork from Darick Robertson.

Amazing Spider-Man #538 - So, no death, but someone gets shot. Kinda figured it'd be that person. Whether this character is killed off or not, will be determined at another time.

The Brave and the Bold #1 - I'm actually liking this. Mark Waid and George Perez make a great team for this book. Highly enjoyable.

Birds of Prey #103 - Pretty good issue. I enjoyed this quite a bit too. Great read. Great artwork.

Civil War #7 - This seemed to have a crappy ending to the series. I enjoyed the rest of the series, but the way this ended wasn't the greatest. Wonder what the Punisher is going to do now.

The Immortal Iron Fist #3 - Two Iron Fists meet.

Local #8 - I missed this book. The extras said that one of the issues will be in Toronto. Really looking forward to that one. Hoping Brian Wood and Ryan Kelly can come up to Toronto for TCAF this summer.

The Spirit #3 - Mainly a flashback issue, but I liked it.

New to my Collection

JSA #81 Page 19 - Pencils by Dale Eaglesham, Inks by Art Thibert

Written by: Geoff Johns
Pencils by: Dale Eaglesham
Inks by: Art Thibert
Colours by: John Kalisz
Image Copyright DC Comics, and I guess the names above.

I won this on eBay a couple weeks back. It finally arrived yesterday. This is from JSA #81, Page 19. Here is that same page, in colour.

For me, I'm very happy to own a page from that issue of JSA. That issue is one of my favourite issues in my collection.

Boughts and Thoughts - February 14th, 2007

Astonishing X-Men #20 - Damn, I'm gonna miss Whedon on this title. Luckily, he's going to be on Runaways, which I'll be picking up again. Oh, comedic moments are great.

Gen 13 #5 - Meh... at least Caldwell is back. I'm looking forward to seeing Alvin Lee on issue #7.

Justice Society of America #3 - Another great issue from Geoff Johns and Dale Eaglesham. Bro brought this up... Wildcat has some messed up sperm.

Nextwave: Agents of H.A.T.E. #12 - *Sniff*... it's over. One of the funniest series over the last year, is over.

My Dead Girlfriend
This is definitely not something that I'd normally pick up, but with all the hype with Eric Wight and doing a bunch of work with DC, I decided to pick this up today. I wouldn't have today, if it wasn't for me being near a Chapters, when I had to go to Canadian Tire to get some Lock De-icer (driver side door, and trunk were frozen today).

As I mentioned, this book is by Eric Wight, who was the "ghost-artist" Seth Cohen (Adam Brody) on The O.C.. My Dead Girlfriend is published by TokyoPop.

First off, this book is targeted towards TEENS (something that I'm not). This book is a teen romantic comedy. That said, every now and then, I'm a sucker for romantic comedies, whether it's movies, or in print.

The book is centred around Finney Bleak. His entire family are and ghosts, while he's the only living member of the family. He meets a girl, Jenny Wraith, at a carnival, and spends the entire day with her. They're supposed to meet the next day, but she doesn't show.

Well, the title is kinda a dead giveaway for why she doesn't show, but there's obviously more to the story. Teenage antics, and interaction at school.

This book does hit the mark for its target age, but is also a fun read for the older crowd. It's an enjoyable read, and I'm down for this series when it continues. May even track down more of Eric Wight's work.

My attempt at digital colouring

So, a little while back, I was just roaming through different blogs I have bookmarked. One of the ones I checked out was J. Bone's Blog. On his blog, he posted his Colouring Tutorial.

It took me some time before I got started, and to find an image that I could try to use this tutorial. Then I remembered that J. Bone did an awesome Spider-Man sketch for me back at TCAF 2005. For those that don't remember what that sketch looks like, here it is again.

Spider-Man by J. Bone

Now, let's keep in mind that I'm not a professional, and I highly doubt I'll ever be one. But I wanted to have a crack at it, and I definitely had some fun with this. The colours are pretty flat, but here is my attempt anyways.

Lemme know what you think.

Boughts and Thoughts - February 7th, 2007

Was feeling quite tired, so I didn't read all the books I picked up. Lots of books this week for me (in comparison to recent weeks).

ACTION COMICS ANNUAL #10 - Still not sure why I wanted this. Wasn't that bad of a read, but I've kinda distanced myself away from the Superman world.

DARK TOWER: THE GUNSLINGER BORN #1 - I enjoyed this. Quite a long read, but I enjoyed it very much. I'm very impressed with Jae Lee's artwork on this, with Richard Isanove's colouring.

FELL #7 - Great read, sucks to see Detective Richard Fell getting beat in this, but still a great read.

FRIENDLY NEIGHBORHOOD SPIDER-MAN #17 - So, this is apparently the first re-appearance of the Black Costume. Also, this relates somewhat to Spider-Man 3 (the movie). Sleeper hit? Maybe.

THE LONE RANGER #4 - Didn't get a chance to read this yet.

NEW AVENGERS #27 - Echo issue. New Echo appears. Also, Spider-Man in black costume. The NEW New Avengers also appears.

THE OTHER SIDE #5 - Great ending to this series. Love that last splash page.

SHAZAM: THE MONSTER SOCIETY OF EVIL #1 - Jeff Smith is making me like the Captain Marvel character. I'm not sure if I'm going to pick this up in single issues, or the trade/hardcover.

SPIDER-MAN: REIGN #3 - Haven't read it yet.

X-23: TARGET X #3 - Kill switch is in the "ON" position. Looking forward to the rest of the series.

X-MEN ANNUAL #1 - Haven't read it yet. Really not sure why I picked it up.

SUPER BOWL SUNDAY!!!!! Damn.. it wasn't "Da Bears!"

Spent the morning/afternoon at the Hobbystar Marketing Toronto ComicCON. Special guests were Udon. I decided to just look for books. Nothing wrong with the Udon crew, I really was just looking for books to buy. I did pick up quite a few.

Birds of Prey #76 - First appearance of Black Alice. Originally, I bought this for my bro, only because I didn't think he had a copy. But he did, so I kept it. For $2, not bad.

The Flash #164 - First Geoff Johns issue of The Flash.

The Flash #197 - First appearance of Zoom.

Impulse #50 - First appearance of Inertia (somewhere in that issue). Can someone tell me if it's the guy in the cloak at the end, or one of the hostages?

JLA #50 - One of those collabo issues. Bryan Hitch, Phil Jimenez, Doug Mahnke, Ty Templeton. No real reason why I picked it up.

Justice League #1 - First appearance of the now dead Max Lord.

The Spirit #1 - I already have this, but in very good condition, so I never opened it. This is my reading copy of the issue.

Wonder Woman #300 - Not sure why I got this.

Wonder Woman #166 - Wonder Woman/Batman cover by Adam Hughes.

Wonder Woman #167 - Wonder Woman/Titans cover by Adam Hughes.

Planetary #2 - For a buck.

Amazing Spider-Man #328 - Spidey vs. Hulk issue, by McFarlane.

Marvel Team-Up #100 - Frank Miller issue.

Uncanny X-Men #218 - First X-Men work by Marc Silvestri. Don't really know why I got it.

Casanova #1 - Hearing good things about this book, so I grabbed issue #1.

Noble Causes: Family Secrets #3 - First appearance of Robert Kirkman's Invincible. I'm quite surprised I found it. Cover price too.

Usagi Yojimbo #100 - I'm glad I found this, because I really want it. I'm now looking for a second copy.

Oni Press Color Special 2001 - I didn't know why I got this at first, but I opened it up, and was glad I picked it up. Just the names involved. Brian Michael Bendis, Greg Rucka, Michael Avon Oeming, Mike and Laura Allred, Phil Hester, Gail Simone, Lea Hernandez, J. Torres, J. Bone, Chynna Clugston, Jen Van Meter, Tom Fowler, Arthur Dela Cruz, Christine Norrie, Stan Sakai, and many others.

After the game, I watched the Super Bowl. The start of the game had me really happy. Bears had an opening drive touchdown. Then intercepted Peyton Manning's first throw of the game.... then it fell apart for the Bears after that. Quite disappointed that the Bears didn't win, even though I expected it.

Oh well, I'm not a football fan to begin with. It's all about Hockey for me.
