I watch movies...

I don't normally watch a lot of movies, but here are four movies that I watched recently.

The Invention of Lying

This was a movie that I wanted to watch, after obtaining autographs at TIFF, from Ricky Gervais and Jennifer Garner.

The gist of the movie, the whole world can't lie, except for Ricky Gervais' character, Mark. He becomes the first person to lie, but since lying is unheard of, everyone thinks he's telling the truth.

Parts of this movie was just hilarious, while the rest of the movie was just alright. One of Jennifer Garner's opening lines, "I was just masturbating." Yeah, lines like that did make me burst out into laughter. There weren't too many of them. Still, I did enjoy the movie as a whole.

The Taking of Pelham 123

Caught this on the flight to Los Angeles. There wasn't a lot of movies I wanted to watch during that flight, but this was one that I did. I am a fan of John Travolta and Denzel Washington, so having both in a movie, was a plus for me.

The gist of this movie, John Travolta and his crew, takes over a subway car, and holds it hostage. Denzel Washington is the city worker keeping an eye on all the subway lines, who handles the negotiation with John Travolta.

It was an entertaining movie, though very predictable.

2012

Saw this in theatres, while in LA. Danny and I were treated to the movie, by my step-sister and her husband. Prior to the movie, me, Danny, and our step-bro-in-law downed a bottle of wine, then me and step-bro got some beers at the 7-11 before the movie. I was fairly buzzed by the start of the movie. :)

The gist of the movie, bad things are happening to the world, and the Chinese can build really big boats.

Very entertaining movie, though a little long. There were times in the movie, where I just found myself laughing, when I probably shouldn't be (like the destruction of LA... while I'm in LA), but it was just funny seeing all of that destruction, people falling to their deaths, and that limo driving through buildings.

Woody Harrelson was a great addition for comedic relief. Just hilarious everytime he was on screen.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen

Okay, I didn't want to watch this, but they didn't change the movies on the flight back, even though Air Canada put out the new "enRoute" magazine, stating District 9 was going to be showing (I wanted to watch that). But since I had a 4 1/2 hour flight, with nothing else to do, I ended up watching this.

Going into this movie, with the same mindset of the last one, I went in with no mind at all. Nah, really, I was just expecting special effects, shit blowing up, and Megan Fox.

And with that mindset, I enjoyed it. Forgetting everything else in this movie, I enjoyed it.

Really, I never had any desire to watch this movie, and refused to watch it during my flight to LA. I only watched this movie out of boredom.

LA 2009 - The Food

Danny has posted pretty much all of the pictures of the food we ate. Something that I was going to do. Oh well, you can look at it all here. Not pictured, In-N-Out Burger, El Super Burrito, and the dinner buffets. Probably some others.

Boughts and Thoughts - November 25th, 2009

Adventure Comics #4 - Picked up the Francis Manapul variant cover.

Blackest Night #5 - Damn good story, with a Green Lantern Ring to boot!

Chew #6 - Chu gets a new partner, which happens to be his old partner. Was considering not getting this, even though I like the series. This issue was a good start to the arc. Even threw in a race joke... about my race... one that I even make. :)

Green Lantern #48 - Probably should have read this before Blackest Night #5. Kind of explains how they got to the beginning of BN #5.

Justice League of America #39 - Yeah, I picked this up for the Red Lantern Ring. It's been a while since I bought a Justice League issue. Expecting it to be another long time before I buy another one.

New Avengers #59 - I'm going to drop this title very soon. Maybe after this arc.

Back in town

Arrived home, from Los Angeles, late Tuesday night. Haven't decided if I'm going to blog about the trip or not. Probably will, eventually. Most of it will be food talk. No "Boughts and Thoughts" for last week, because I didn't buy any comics while I was away. Well, I did, but it's an old one. New ones I'll just pick up when I go out to get this week's books.

California Love

Going back to Los Angeles tomorrow afternoon. Will return the following Tuesday. Not sure if I'll be blogging while I'm there. I also don't expect to do much there. Been to LA several times before, so there aren't too many places that I am looking to check out. Will probably just spend time with family.

Boughts and Thoughts - November 11th, 2009

Sorry for the delay in posting this. As Danny mentioned, we got Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Was playing that last night, since my original plans were canceled. Frankly, this post slipped my mind.

Booster Gold #26 - Bought this to get the Orange Lantern ring. Oh, and Ted Kord is a Black Lantern.

R.E.B.E.L.S. #10 - Bought this to get the Indigo Lantern ring. I just don't want to read this book.

The Walking Dead #67 - Carl explains why he did what he did. Something is revealed. New character appearance.

I could have been as cruel as him, when he posted this, but decided against it. I'm not as much of a bastard, as he is... though I could have been worse, since he was experiencing some food poisoning.

Thinking it's time for some changes...

I have been neglecting this blog quite a bit. Sure, I have my weekly "Boughts & Thoughts" post, but like always, I get lazy and don't really feel like posting other stuff.

Laziness mainly took over during the first half of October. It was just work in the day, then come home to play video games. But once my friends' wedding took place, I've been feeling like I have drifted away from all of my friends from high school (and middle school) over the past few years, so it was time to reconnect on a more regular basis. Frankly, I missed them (everyone together now, "Awwwwwww..."). Not to take anything away from all the great friends and acquaintances I have met through the comic book hobby, but these are friendships have been going on for the last 11 years or more.

I have been doing a lot of thinking over the past two weeks. Thoughts have been ranging from friends, family, life, video games, comics, sports, and various random shit. Some thoughts were very important ones, others were just flat out pointless. There have been days where I have been depressed as hell, other days where I feel like I'm on top of the world. I can't really explain it, it's just been weird for me.

One of the thoughts that has been, where I am going with this comic book hobby? I know I won't be giving it up, because I still enjoy the hobby. However, let's be real... there is a lot of crap being published. Most of which I don't buy, but some of which, I do. So, I am expecting myself to cut down even more than I have been, just to save some funds.

To add to the comic book hobby, is the sketch collecting. Something that I truly enjoy, but it what the bulk of my funds have been going towards over the past few years.

Expect me to cut down significantly on those as well in the new year. And I say new year, because I won't be able to attend the November 22nd Hobbystar Toronto ComiCON, since I will be in Los Angeles for my cousin's wedding, which takes place on that day. So, unless something else pops up (store signings, etc.), from now until the end of the year, I think I'm done for the year.

Don't expect to see a whole bunch of sketches from the conventions in the new year. I'll probably be more selective when it comes down to it, whether that means spending more on single pieces, rather than getting several smaller pieces. Or, if it just means getting less of those smaller pieces altogether. I haven't fully decided yet.

Heck, I don't even know if I'd go through with any of this, since this could just be a feeling I have now. But yeah, the feeling I have now is that I just don't have the desire for it right now.

Boughts and Thoughts - November 4th, 2009

Doom Patrol #4 - Bought this strictly for the yellow lantern ring. I want more rings, but I can't justify paying for more copies of this book.

Haunt #2 - This book has potential. Not sure how long I'll be following it, but it was a pretty decent issue.
