Boughts and Thoughts....

I've reached the point where I just don't feel like writing a little blurb about what I purchased on a weekly basis. Does anyone really care? Probably not, unless you happen to stumble on my blog, using one of the many searches, like Technorati, searching for a specific title.

This doesn't mean that I won't make mention of books in the future. But really, it's all been pretty repetitive, which is why I have decided to stop with the weekly post.

If you are curious as to what I bought week, I'll list them, just without any opinions.

- Sea Bear & Grizzly Shark #1
- Superman #700
- Zatanna #2

Boughts and Thoughts - June 9th, 2010

Batman #700 - Milestone issue. I don't really know why I bought it, other than it being a milestone issue. Not bad, but haven't been following Batman.

Jonah Hex #56 - Still haven't read it. I got lazy, and didn't want to remove the poly-bag.

Nemesis #2 - Definitely want to see where this is going. Why do I get this feeling that issue #3 will be somewhat similar to The Dark Knight movie?

Boughts and Thoughts - June 2nd, 2010

I, Zombie #2 - I was hoping for more of a direct continuation from the end of issue #1. It seemed this issue mainly focused on the supporting characters, which kind of bored me. I know it'll all tie-in together later on.

That was it for me. I was actually debating on whether I'd be going to the store, or not. I was already at work for our annual staff recognition party, so I was halfway to the store. I just felt like taking that half back home, and just pick up the book next week. Oh well, at least others had stuff that I picked up for them. Gave me a reason to go.

Boughts and Thoughts - May 26th, 2010

Green Lantern #54 - Been thinking about cutting this title, once again. Not taking anything away from the great work by Geoff Johns and Doug Mahnke. This "Brightest Day" stuff just doesn't interest me at the moment.

The Guild #3 - Kind of a bummer of an ending. Kind of makes me sad about those that play MMORPGs.

Mystery Society #1 - Interesting series; however, I'm debating on whether to continue this or not.

Boughts and Thoughts - May 19th, 2010

Berona's War Preview Book - Just saw it on the rack, and flipped through it out of curiosity. Didn't really read anything in it, but the artwork just looks fantastic. The first book in the series is released in July, I believe. I may just have to check it out.

Girl Comics #2 - Fun stuff! Bought issue one, because of the artwork of Agnes Garbowska. Bought this issue, because of Faith Erin Hicks. Fun story with Elsa Bloodstone and Boom Boom (both from that Nextwave: Agents of H.A.T.E. series that I absolutely loved). Also, I did enjoy Jill Thompson's story, with the Inhumans.

Legion of Super-Heroes #1 - Decided to give this Legion series a shot, but I was reminded, once again, that I don't really care for them. Nothing against the story by Paul Levitz. The artwork by Yildiray Cinar was pretty good too. I just don't care for the characters.

Zatanna #1 - You know I HAD to buy this! Enjoyable story, but I honestly don't know much about Zatanna's Rogue Gallery. Hopefully this series brings me more knowledge of Zatanna, other than me just liking her costume and getting sketches of her.

Boughts and Thoughts - May 12th, 2010

The Flash #2 - Spoiler Alert! The Flash rebuilds a building! Just loved that scene. Another great issue from Geoff Johns and Francis Manapul.

New Avengers Finale - Admittedly, this was a good issue. It helps that I read Siege #4 first (Danny picked it up). It was pretty clear as to where everything was going. I'm actually glad as to where it's going.

Boughts and Thoughts - May 5th, 2010 + More

Happy Cinco de Mayo, people!

Yeah, I'm not Mexican... does that make me a "Mexican't"? Oh, Robert Rodriguez, that was a stupid line from "Once Upon a Time in Mexico."

That allows me to segue into why I didn't post this earlier. I was cooking (yes, I can cook, and bake). I spent the afternoon, cooking dinner for the family. We had pulled pork tacos, and pulled pork sandwiches. And how does this segue from "Once Upon a Time in Mexico"? The bulk of the marinade for the pulled pork.

See, while at the wedding on Saturday, my good friend Mike was talking about the pulled pork tacos he and his wife had while in Mexico. Then his wife, Cypril, suggested I make the tacos they had (with no pictures, or really any knowledge of how to do it), after posting pictures of my dinner on Sunday.

What the heck? It sounds delicious, so I took a stab at it.

Now, after searching for some recipes on what I need for this, I also wanted to check out a video I saw that's in the "Once Upon a Time in Mexico" DVD. It's a cooking lesson, by Robert Rodriguez (director of Desperado, Sin City, Spy Kids 1-3, Once Upon a Time in Mexico).

Now, this isn't really the same thing as what I was planning on making. But really, it's pulled pork, and I'm deciding what to put that pork on. I followed some of the instructions with the ingredients, but I had to scrap some of the spices, and the peppers, because of my little siblings. The pork could have used that kick. Maybe next time.

Once the pork was in the over, it was time to read some comics.

Brightest Day #1 - It was off to an okay start, but I'm not continuing with this bi-weekly series.

I, Zombie #1 - I caught the preview of this in American Vampire #2, and I really enjoyed the preview. I was a little bored with the middle of this issue, but did enjoy the beginning and ending. Looking forward to checking out the next issue. Oh, and I got both covers!

Boughts and Thoughts - April 28th, 2010

Stupid brakes... spent my morning waiting for my brakes to get replaced, and spent a helluva lot more than I was anticipating on spending. Turns out my rear brakes were about to go to shits, so I had those replaced too. At least Midas through in a free oil change, and adjusted the parking brake for free. But still, it was over double what I was originally hoping to spend.

Anyways, here's what I got.

The Guild #2 - I'm still more into the parts of the book, where they are in the MMORPG, and the "real world" stuff was more of a bore. However, the ending did shake up everything.

New Avengers #64 - This is still not over? Now there's a "Finale" issue? I must have missed that in the solicits, or just flat out forgot about it. I just want this series to be over.

Boughts and Thoughts - April 21st, 2010

American Vampire #2 - Well, I gave this a shot, at the request of Scott Snyder (American Vampire creator), and it's not bad. I still don't know if I'll continue with it, at least in single issue format. The preview for I, Zombie has me really interested in that title.

The Brave and the Bold #33 - The cover caught my eye when it was solicited. Zatanna, Wonder Woman, and Batgirl (Barbara Gordon). Definitely had me curious about it, and already wanting to buy it. Having Cliff Chiang on artwork, did seal that deal. And after reading this issue, honestly, this book was just beautiful. Hands down, one of the best issues I have read in a very long time. Very emotional, very touching. Kudos to J. Michael Straczynski for writing this issue, and Kudos to Cliff Chiang for making you feel the emotions in this issue. I absolutely loved this issue.

DV8 #1 - I don't really know why I bought this. I don't know anything about DV8 in the past, but I just picked it up. It's not bad, but I doubt I'll continue.

Green Lantern #53 - Okay, I didn't really enjoy this issue. Kind of a boring follow up to Blackest Night.

Wednesday, April 14, 2010

Boughts and Thoughts - April 14th, 2010

Brightest Day #0 - We see Deadman, now back to life, and traveling around to those that were resurrected at the end of Blackest Night, basically seeing what's to come in the bi-weekly series.

Chew #10 - And I'm done. Great series, but I'm losing interest.

The Flash #1 - Wasn't going to pass up on Francis Manapul's run on The Flash. The only disappoint thing about this, was that I did not receive a Flash Ring with my copy of this book. Not sure if my shop ordered them, or just flat out forgot. I surely did forget, as I was in search for variants of many of this week's books.

Kill Shakespeare #1 - I haven't read many Shakespeare plays, or seen many of the movies that were made of them (still liking the Baz Luhrmann directed William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet). However, I did enjoy those that I have read or watched. Then again, this series does combine a bunch of the plays of Shakespeare, and makes a whole different story, spinning out of them. Fun Stuff!

Boughts and Thoughts - April 7th, 2010

Kind of forgot to post this yesterday. Felt the need to try and beat the "Wetwork" Spec Ops mission in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, on Veteran. I was unsuccessful. Tried again today, but no dice. Making it to the end, where you breach the final room, but I keep dying either in the room, or just as I'm about to breach. Once done that, then it's on to beating "Snatch & Grab" on Veteran, then I'm done with Spec Ops.

Anyways, on to the post.

Invincible Returns #1 - Wanted the Darwyn Cooke cover, but forgot there was three covers. So when I asked for the variant, I was given the Erik Larsen variant. Let this be a lesson, be more specific. I haven't been keeping up to date with Invincible, but looks like another brutal battle is coming up.

Turf #1 - Gotta admit, this didn't seem all that interesting to me. Doubt I'll continue.

Boughts and Thoughts - March 31st, 2010

Blackest Night #8 - I really only wanted this book. Finish off the series, see how it ends. I really enjoyed this series, and this issue is no different. Seeing Sinestro at a White Lantern in the previous issue, as well as the GL issues, had me all excited to see where it was all leading to. Although, it was a quick end, and the last half of the book was seeing the aftermath of the battle, it was still highly entertaining. Looking forward to Brightest Day.

The Waking #1 & #2 - It didn't seem right for me to head to the shop, and only buy one book, so I picked up The Waking #2. It had a J. Scott Campbell cover, and Zenescope has had some pretty good titles, all of which are generally the same genre. Horror. This was no different, even though I haven't read issue #2 yet. But because I didn't pick up issue #1, I got that as well. Seems okay.

Boughts and Thoughts - March 24th, 2010

Green Lantern #52 - Sinestro as the lone White Lantern. Made for an interesting story. I am really looking forward to seeing the conclusion to Blackest Night.

The Guild #1 - Although I'm not into any MMORPGs, I was sold on a story about playing an MMORPG. It's written by Felicia Day (Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog), so I was in.

Nemesis #1 - How could I pass up a creator-owned book, by Mark Millar and Steve McNiven? I want more violence. This issue didn't make "Kick-Ass look like $#!T". I was expecting something more than what Hit-Girl did in Kick-Ass. Hopefully in an upcoming issue.

New Avengers #63 - One more issue, then I'm done with this series. I enjoyed this issue more than the last, which was one that I also found enjoyable (somewhat). I would rather see more Avengers in battles, instead of the Avengers getting their asses kicked by D-list characters, for over a year.

And one I wanted to get last week, but had to wait until this week:

American Vampire #1 (Variant) - The Jim Lee cover.

Wednesday, March 17, 2010

Boughts and Thoughts - March 17th, 2010

American Vampire #1 - Can't say that I enjoyed it. Was kind of bored. Doubt I'll continue.

X-23 #1 (One-Shot) - Another book that I can't say I enjoyed. Just X-23 dealing with stuff. Wanted more action, rather than dealing with demons inside of her.

Boughts and Thoughts - March 3rd, 2010

Chew #9 - Chew has been a fun series to read, but I think once this arc is done, I'm done with it.

Girl Comics #1 - I really only bought this issue, because of the artwork by Agnes Garbowska. The story she worked on (written by Robin Furth), was originally solicited for issue #2, but was moved up to the first issue. The fun story mixes up Hansel & Gretel with Franklin Richards & Valeria Richards.

Green Hornet #1 - What would have been Kevin Smith's Green Hornet movie, in comic book form! I think I'll wait for the collected.

Boughts and Thoughts - February 24th, 2010

Blackest Night #7 - I want issue #8!

New Avengers #62 - Okay, this looks to lead into Siege... which is already two issues into that mini-series (halfway into that mini-series). Although this was a little more enjoyable than, say, the past 20 issues of New Avengers (storywise), it's still not that great (storywise).

The Walking Dead #70 - Though I didn't pick up the previous issue, I picked this one up, because Danny mentioned that Bleeding Cool made mention that this might be a hot book. What the heck... it's not like I've been buying a lot of comics these days. I'll splurge with the extra $3.

Boughts and Thoughts - February 17th, 2010

Been three weeks since I last went to get comics. Looking at a tentative shipping list for next week, I may be going next week too (Holy crap! Two straight weeks?!?!? First time in 2010!).

Green Lantern #51 - Continuation of the GL/Parallax/Spectre story, for the Blackest Night tie-in. Didn't really care for this issue.

Supergirl #50 - Really only bought this for the Michael Turner cover. Aside from that, I didn't really care for this issue either. The cover is just magnificent!

Wednesday, January 27, 2010

Boughts and Thoughts - January 27th, 2010

Holy crap, I bought comics!

Chew #8 - Aw, I was hoping to see some illegal cockfighting... these issues just seem so short, but still enjoyable.

Green Lantern #50 - So many Lanterns... hard to fit them all into the issue, but I guess there's something bigger going on. Parallax! (Seriously, the cover gave it away).

Kick-Ass #8 - Finally, this mini-series comes to an end. Brutal battle, then back to somewhat reality.

New Avengers #61 - Okay, once this series is done, I doubt I'll be buying Avengers #1.

Wednesday, January 13, 2010

Boughts and Thoughts - January 13th, 2010

No books for me last week, and one this week. Yeah, I'm actually going through with my cutbacks on comics.

Adventure Comics #6 - Picked up both covers. Geoff Johns and Francis Manapul's final issue of Adventure Comics (for the time being?). Might even be my last issue of this book, for now. Great issue, but with Johns/Manapul leaving, I don't really want to continue.

Wednesday, December 23, 2009

Boughts and Thoughts - December 23rd, 2009

Chew #7 - Quite disappointed that the character they introduced in this issue, was taken out in this issue. Hoped this character would have lasted a little longer. Oh well, this was still a good issue.

Chimichanga #1 - Wasn't sure what this was about, but a new book by Eric Powell, seemed like a thing to try. Not sure if I'm going to continue.

Green Lantern #49 - This was a John Stewart issue... didn't enjoy this one as much as the rest of the Blackest Night tie-ins.

New Avengers #60 - You know... I'm done with New Avengers. This is the second time I'm dropping this title, though that first time I dropped it, I picked up all the issues I missed (which was like 4-5 issues at that time). Out of all my comics, this is the book that I have every issue, since the first issue (not including all of the variants). Because it's the longest run I have, I'm kind of sad to drop it, but for $4 an issue, it's just not worth it.
